Should I.?

I have seven tattoos and my first wasnt as bad as I expected but its no picnic. It goes numb after a while. A few of my tattoos are extremely symbolic. I have the chinese symbol for love in the center of my back symbolizing all the people I love, have loved, or have loved me. I also have two butterflies symbolizing getting out of a bad relationship, like I'm free.

What are your ideas?

What you get is one of the more personal things you'll experience - people here can, at best, be useful for giving either/or critique, but any response of substance probably isn't worth much.

I'd say think about what is it that's important in your life and how you'd symbolize that. How is such an open question that it can't be answered by any but you, but for starters take a look at sites like ratemyink.com and read people's comments along with their tattoos. Sometimes they have extensive stories about their work, and that could trigger a similar process for you.

As far as pain, it's still my line (stolen) that the pain is more hype than fact. Sure, it hurts, but you get those fun endorphins to experience and a lifetime of (hopefully) good art. The lower back is about mid-level pain compared to others, being not too fleshy, and work directly over the spine less pleasant than other areas.

Decided what is important to you, and what you feel like symbolizes everything you have been through.

I have one and it was not bad at all. It did hurt but really not too much. I did get it on my calf so that is why the pain was extremely low.
