Expiration date on food...?

If a food product says it will expire on a certain date, does that mean it will expire on the actual day or the day after?

At midnight that day, it turns into a pumpkin, and all you find beside it are crystal glass slippers.

Well like milk, I know you have at least a week after the expiration date. I would not trust Chicken over the due date. You might want to smell the things before you cook any thing. Smell will usually tell you some thing is not right.

Milk and bread tend to last beyond the expiration date given, so do vegetables and fruit. So I suppose it stands to reason that other foods last beyond the expiration date but I'm not sure how you would check it other than smelling it and looking for obvious spoils. Or you can try my method; feed it to my husband and if he doesn't die its was probably ok : )

  • it means it has expired on the date stated so if it says dec 24th 2007 that means you have to use it before that day arrives or eat or drink it on that day is fine but not after that date

    its just a rough guide

i ate a bar of chocolate dated 14/07/05 on roughly the same day in 07/2006 and it hadnt actually expired.

sometimes it will go bad before the date sometimes not for days after

really it is the guideline for selling the product

i find that milk will alst a day or so longer than expiration date,

    same for cheeses

even some luncheon meats are ok for a while if you leave them sealed

might be just an estimate of when the food might start to spoil. i've eaten food past it's expiration date, and i have never gotten sick.

that is a sell by date for the stores referance , not a throw out by date . the stores know you'll have it at home for a period of time

It is the recommended date, that is all. Most foods will last far longer if stored correctly.

its classed as a use by date and should not be eaten ater that date how ever if its a best before date it is fine just means that tastes better before that date check out this siye http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/conten...
