84 tempo Tie rod question?

Hello I'm already aware of the issue which is my right tie rod I was told by a co-worker that I need a special socket to do the inner tie rod is this true?

Or was he yanking my chain. Thumbing through my Haynes manual and it's not showing any thing regarding the inner tie rod only the end which should be an easy fix.

He may be referring to a tie rod spanner wrench. You shouldn't have any problem using ViceGrips to unthread it. You also may need a pickle fork to detach the ball end.

There is a specially designed tool to make it easier but if you don't want to spend the money on it, you can use a pair of vise-grips. Won't be as easy, but it'll work.

I sometime use a small pipe wrench to remove and tighten it.
