  • Would this WI-FI adapter give me wireless display aka WIDI.?

Hi I just bought a Compaq laptop with a Broadcom wi-fi module installed in it. It also has a core I3 370M processor installed and 7 home premium for an Os.

If I purchased the adapter from the link below, would that give me WIDI and Mywifi on my laptop after installing the drivers etc?

    Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/230700990660?ssPageName=ST...

I want to be certain that it would give me wireless display, and my WIfi to my Compaq prior to buying.

Thanks for the input in advance

  • What career would fit a INTP personality?

I decided to take stock of my situation and to asses myself to see where I stand. My personality type is a definite INTP. The question being where would I be happiest and in what role? I currently work as a computer technician (hardware side) and although I enjoy the troubleshooting aspect. I find the rigidness and structured environment uncomfortable. I often thought about designing my own systems as a lot of my ideas seem to get pushed by the wayside in lieu of the status quo.

I have innovations regarding construction, cooling, design, etc but in a strictly service capacity I feel stifled and unsatisfied.

So that being said should I consider making the leap from troubleshooting to design. I know there are inherent risks to any endeavor. I'm just asking for input to see if my personality type would be better suited in this role.

I know there really is no best answer, but will pick one regardless.

  • Why would Microsoft alienate legit license holders?

I just spoke with a friend that updated to SP1 on Windows 7.

It basically did the following slowed his system to a crawl and invalidated his legit Windows 7 install this is an HP G144DX with a valid 7 home premium 64 key attached that was activated online on the time of install with zero mods to the system.

This is not the 1st time I heard this complaint either. My question is, is Microsoft just plain daft? Or is this bashing of legit license holders in the name of piracy defense while the actual pirates of the OS walk away unscathed some form of internal sabotage to drive people to buying a bloody Mac or installing Nix on their machine?

The aforementioned friend intends to contact Microsoft and if no joy is to be had. I'll be performing a Nix installation tonight.

    WTG team Microsoft.

The logic behind alienating license holders escapes me.

  • Is this the same power button board?

Trying to locate a G62 power button board and it's like pulling teeth.

I have noticed a shocking similarity to the G42 power button board so much so I'm asking if they can be used in a G62?

    Link to G62 switch:

    http://www.laptopking.com/partpicture_LK.asp?ref=3...

    Link to G42 switch:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item...

The layout and switches appear to be identical other than a different fold in the ribbon cable for the G42 power switch.

Any and all input is appreciated Thanks.

  • HP G62 continues to boot into selective start up Windows 7?

Recently replaced the lcd and noticed that the power button board had a cracked solder joint where the ribbon cable connects. Carefully re soldered the connection making sure it did not bridge.

Every time 7 boots it goes straight to selective start up like it would after an improper shutdown. I did everything from a clean install of 7 to Updating the bios and drivers as well. Checking every ribbon connection twice and testing the bios battery. I then tested the hd, memory, and ran the on board diagnostics across it for short start up and long and it came back clean. The only thing that diagnostics does not check is you guessed it shutdown and "the power switch".

Question is would a weakened connection across that switch continuously trip windows 7 to the advanced boot menu or would it possibly be the LCD I replaced.

Also the error started about two days after the affected repairs giving time for the soldered connection to be flexed and weakened.

Thoughts: Best answer gets the points.

  • Is the following setup basically turbo boost for XP?

I recently updated the drive in my aspire one and was left with a 16gb zif ssd.

I purchased a Zif to Sata adapter fashioned a small mount bracket for inside the tower and then mounted the assembly inside. I then adjusted XP to use it for swap space as opposed to the standard hard drive.

My question: Is this not in principle the same as turbo boosted memory for Vista and Seven? Or do they use both turbo boosted memory and disk cache? If so how is that an advantage over using solid state memory only ?

I have to state the old XP system performs better overall than prior to this little mod.

  • Am I Normal in my philosophy on life?

I have a question regarding my current mind set.

I see individuals striving towards tangible goals. And this question entails “ambition or lack of” and it's normality.

I have no family of my own, no personal need for amassing large sums of wealth, or power. I simply enjoy living for livings sake.

I have dated individuals that have chastised me for my lack of ambition and drive. But I can't wrap my head around their desire to be in my view nothing but a transient success before the inevitability of death.

I much prefer sitting and enjoying the world go by in it's hustle and bustle watching individuals go to and fro scraping fighting and doing everything in their power to gain improvement over their condition with mixed success.

It's not that I fear trying to be successful, I just fail to see the point. I find it an exercise in futility and a distraction to the otherwise wonderful opportunities that never see the light of day because of the severe limitations of self image, personal advancement, and the need of a sense of security.

Obviously I'm asking the question as I feel my feelings aren't normal. I sometimes ponder if it's a lack of maturity on my part for never having started a family. Or if it's something that's simply not hardwired in my cranium due to some potential imbalance.

I'm not a slow witted individual. I simply lack the inherent desire to be successful. And I don’t understand if it's simply something wrong with me or if I might be correct.

Any and all thoughts are welcome, even the negative ones.

  • The legality of Modifying XP?

    Hi'

I was bored and was tinkering about with a tablet PC with an external usb tuner installed. And inconsequentially via resources available on the web created and hashed together XP Ultimate I guess with full tablet and media center functions enabled and running.

I own and have the license for XP pro that's installed on it, But I understand that there may be less than desirable implications for my having made the modifications.

    Thoughts.

P.S. I have the original install of XP pro mirrored and ready to replace if I done something fundamentally wrong "again I was bored" :).

  • Can a person be a crap magnet?

Okay to start off I'm a total skeptic and don't profess to have any abilities whatsoever.

But yesterday I came down with a bad head cold and the following happened in chronological order.

8:06 am driving back home after dropping off the fiance The car dies like it was pimp slapped by the "hand of god" No noise no nothing it simply dies no power to accessories nothing after a minute the car simply restarts and has run fine since. Car is a 01 with 100,00 miles and maintained regularly.

9:46 am Driving the second car basically new less than 30K miles driving down the highway it again simply dies exactly the same way the other vehicle did. Again restarting after approximately after a minute.

10:20 am The grocery store Feeling the head cold now 3 bottles of Soy Sauce explode as I pass them in the isle not falling just exploding scaring the crap out of everyone in the isle who witnessed it.

11:30 ish While putting away groceries the all in one PC in the Kitchen makes a high pitched squeal and shuts down instantly. Currently running fine without issue.

12:00- 4:00pm nap the head cold really was kicking my a$$

4:45pm Talking to my fiance in the kitchen an unopened steel can of coffee suddenly jumps about 1ft into the air as both ends dome outward as if wanting to explode.

6:00pm Watching television the DVR locks up as if frozen in time no response from the remote had to reboot the DVR to get any response whatsoever.

This happens multiple times during the course of the evening but currently it works fine without issue.

9:30pm Sitting in front of the computer the florescent desk lamp suddenly gets extremely bright "extremely" still seeing sun spots bright LOL. Then it dies.

9:31 Think to myself "WTH" and go back to bed.

Was there solar activity yesterday? Planets aligned in the wrong way? WTF! Was it simply coincidence, or am I losing my marbles was it perhaps, higher powers shunning me for lack of belief. Random quantum events just drawn to my head cold LOL. Or can a person literally be a crap magnet?
