What career would fit a INTP personality?

I decided to take stock of my situation and to asses myself to see where I stand. My personality type is a definite INTP. The question being where would I be happiest and in what role? I currently work as a computer technician (hardware side) and although I enjoy the troubleshooting aspect. I find the rigidness and structured environment uncomfortable. I often thought about designing my own systems as a lot of my ideas seem to get pushed by the wayside in lieu of the status quo.

I have innovations regarding construction, cooling, design, etc but in a strictly service capacity I feel stifled and unsatisfied.

So that being said should I consider making the leap from troubleshooting to design. I know there are inherent risks to any endeavor. I'm just asking for input to see if my personality type would be better suited in this role.

I know there really is no best answer, but will pick one regardless.
