Why would Microsoft alienate legit license holders?

I just spoke with a friend that updated to SP1 on Windows 7.

It basically did the following slowed his system to a crawl and invalidated his legit Windows 7 install this is an HP G144DX with a valid 7 home premium 64 key attached that was activated online on the time of install with zero mods to the system.

This is not the 1st time I heard this complaint either. My question is, is Microsoft just plain daft? Or is this bashing of legit license holders in the name of piracy defense while the actual pirates of the OS walk away unscathed some form of internal sabotage to drive people to buying a bloody Mac or installing Nix on their machine?

The aforementioned friend intends to contact Microsoft and if no joy is to be had. I'll be performing a Nix installation tonight.

WTG team Microsoft.

The logic behind alienating license holders escapes me.

A simple call to Microsoft Customer Support should straighten out the problem. If the computer is new and the initial install of Win 7 is recent, the installaton of SP1 could have mistakenly been tagged as a new install.

If the install of SP1 slowed the system to a crawl, it sounds like the install didn't go well.

How much free space is there on the hard drive? Download and run Ccleaner to get rid of all unnecessary crap like temporary files that are no longer needed.

Contacting MS will cure your friends problem. But why does this happen? I can't really say, but an operating system is just software, and software screws up from time to time. Haven't you ever had a program crash. Did you know that about 35% of the windows operating systems running in the world are pirated? Is just an attempt by Microsoft to protect there property.

I build and sell allot of computers and have had to call MS on many occasions because an installation KEY had be pirated in some third work country. Sure, it's can be a bit of a pain, but MS always helps cure these problems. So call them, cure the problem, and move on.
