Why are deer hypnotized by approaching car headlights?

They think it is the end of the world and try to go into the light rather than the alternative.

Deer stand there hypnotized and get clocked by a vehicle because a moving car is a foreign occurrence in nature. By the time they figure out they are going to get hit, they got hit! It's the same with any other kind of animal.

they see the lights and do not know what is happening, they stare at the light and suddenly they get hit! Also many deer that are hit are actually crossing roads on old established trails that the deer have been using for centuries, they don't look both ways before crossing and they get hit that way, too.

They are trying to hypnotize the person in the car to stop. They just haven't figured out that it doesn't work.

we have problems with cats and rabbits here-altho the cats could be on the side of the road and see a car and just run across the road in front of it and back again! headlights or no lights! as for the deer-looking for a chev!

I always wonder that myself!

I actually saw one prancing across the highway into heavy traffic and it smacked right into a semi truck!It was so horrible!

Really the truck was huge,not to mention loud,so why didn't it stop and wait for the semi to go by?!

I think the light just blinds them..nothing like it from the seat of an 18 wheeler.. talk about mowed down ... they get splattered by one of those.

there stupid thats why..i live in a deer area too and the idotic things do that all the time..you never see a bear hit by a car??
