what are the chances??
Last Summer we moved to a new house. When I plugged in my computer something happened. I think the house has electrical problems. My computer got an electrical surge and it quit working. I know I was stupid for not using a surge protector. My monitor was fine but my computer wouldn't work. When I hooked the monitor up to the tower my moniter would quit working. When it was plugged in by itself it worked. So I was wondering what are my chances of retrieving any info from the computer? The only thing I really want off it is my pictures that I took. Anyone had any luck with this type of thing.
BTW I am planning on taking it to a local computer shop not doing it myself. I was just kind of curious what my chances are before I go.

I am guessing they are pretty good. I wager to guess that the electrical surge just got your power supply, and not your hard drive. Let us know what you find out. Also, don't let the computer shop charge you a lot to get your pictures off your hard drive. This is not data recovery, and should take no time at all if the hard drive is in good shape.

just open your cause and take out the 2 cords out the back of the hard drive then take the 4 screws out of the hard drive (2 on each side)
then go to local computer store and but a hard drive hard drive enclosure.plug it in the usb port then pluging the 2 cables to the hard drive put the screws in and hook the power cord up.
now you can access all that.
also it does sound like you cooked you graphics card.
