A community college is a two year school for people interested in pursuing an Associates Degree. They call it a 'community college' because it usually serves people who are near the college, and who can commute to it each day with little hassle.

Community colleges also have programs where after completing your Associates Degree, you can be admitted into a four year state college to pursue your Bachelor's degree. People tend to take this route because they were not admitted to the four year school at first, but can transfer in. Or they find out that it's a lot cheaper at a community college for two years and then to a four year school, rather then just the full four years at the state school when you both end up with the same degree.

A Community College is a 2 year education facility. This means you can get an Associates Degree and tranfer to a 4 year.

A Community College is also funded by the local government (City & sometimes County) for which it residers and is MUCH less expensive than a state college.

All posters above me are correct- I chose to go to community college and then transfer. I could take my required credits that I needed at any school at community college and pay $70 a credit hour- or i could take the same course equivalents at the 4 year school and pay $450 a credit hour. Too me, it was a no-brainer.

Community colleges are becoming more and more popular as colleges are increasing tuition and there aren't any jobs to pay for it.
