impact wrench and socket set?

Hi, Just picked up a new air compressor along with an impact wrench as a gift. My question is does a impact wrench need to have an impact socket set or can it be coupled with a regular socket set?

Update:

Any recommendations for a good set of impact sockets? not too overly priced.

you need impact sockets, the walls are thicker on them to withstand the jarring and pressure on the impact wrench.

Look people yes reg sockets can and will break with an impact wrench but lets look at something here. He said he's replacing wheel lugs.. This is an 80-150 ft lbs job. The reg sockets will be fine if he keeps the impact set to the lowest setting that will remove the lugs. Sure if he was working on taking a 15/16" nut off a cat dozer thats torqued to 400 ft lbs and needs about 600 ft lbs break away torque that would be a diff story, the impact would need to be on highest setting and would have to hammer on the nut awhile to get it off... Then yes a reg socket would bust and need for impact sockets would be very high Thats not the case though

Save yourself the headache and get impact sockets. Craftsmen are just fine.. If you use regular sockets there will be a good chance the impact gun can split them possibly causing injury to yourself - - - - - - - Depending on your budget Snap-On (the best) S&K, Wright, Mac and Matco make the highest quality impact sockets I dont usualy recommend overseas tools but have found that Thorsen brand and Ingersoll Rand impact sockets to be fairly decent!

Socket spliting ,said above. Can happen on a impact socket also.Never wrap your hand around any socket using an impact tool.
