  • nikon d80 and lens?

Hello everyone and thank you for reading my post. I appreciate any help. I'm new to SLR cameras, but i'm amazed as to the quality of pictures that they can produce so i'm looking into getting one. I was looking at the Canon eos 40d but it's a little out of my budget. I am now looking at the Nikon 40d which is a bit more affordable as package on ebay. My question is are their any suggestions between these cameras for a first time user. What about the lens, some of these people include Nikon lens, Sigma lens, or Tamron lens, are any of these superior to the other? Which lens would be good for a first time user, I want one i can stick with for a while and perhaps a wide angle also. By the way, although most of the pictures will be taken in bright daylight, I do hope and will use the camera in low light settings such as at night also. Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Malamute owners only?

Hello, I was wondering whether there are any mal owners on this site who can give me some information through personal experience about this breed - I don't need the "the dog is big, they are not good guard dogs etc" and the source is from a website or a book - I have done plenty of research on this breed for the past few years - I currently have corgis only and by corgis i mean my bf and I co-own 6 corgis. Once we get a larger place I will get a malamute, but i will like to have some advice from previous and current owners of this breed. What do you guys notice that i need to look out for? i'm planning to bike everyday with this dog, I know obedience at an early age is a must. I have a ton of small dogs, will the malamute bully them? will they howl at nite if i keep him as an outside dog? it's that or sleep in the garage with the rest of the gang, but can get kind of warm in there, but i understand dogs are pack animals too. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

  • What would you do for your dog?

Just out of curiosity - If you know you're dog is not going to live through the week (the vet even asked whether you want to euthanize her to put her out of her misery) what would you do for the dog during the last few days?

I'm asking this because our sheltie passed away two days ago (she was very sick) - My sister decided not to euthanize her and took her home - and now the dog probably died a painful death. I think if it was me I would let my dog eat all the foods i did not allow him to eat before such as pizza, hot dog, burger, ice cream so he can be happy and then have him pass on painlessly.

    what about you?

  • laser printer prints half page only?

hi my friend has a lexmark laser printer, he recently just changed the cartridge and somehow the printer has been printing only half a page (vertically). He called technical support and they said it might be broken and need to replace some parts. Anyone have any knowledge about this? I know fixing a laser can cost a bundle, Could there be any other reason why it's only printing half?

  • impact wrench and socket set?

Hi, Just picked up a new air compressor along with an impact wrench as a gift. My question is does a impact wrench need to have an impact socket set or can it be coupled with a regular socket set?

  • Air Compressor question/recommendation?

Hello and thanks for reading my post. I am searching for an air compressor for my boyfriend. He doesn't do any handy work around the home, but he does like to work on his car. I figured he'll probably use it on inflating tires, loosening the nuts and bolts, and using the blowgun to blow away any excess water in the crevaces? However, I would also want this air compressor to last so that if he needs it for any other larger jobs he'll also be able to. Would a craftsman 26gal be too large for now? here is a link of the one i'm thinking about purchasing, http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_009167610...

any help or recommendations for any other models are appreciated and thanks in advance.

  • How to keep cats away?

Hello, I know most of you here are cat lovers, so don't get me wrong, I don't hate cats. But I have four dogs at home that go crazy at just the sight of a cat. I also occassionally let me dogs into the grass area of my yard and they have attacked and killed a possum before. My neighborhood has a lot of cats wandering (both stray and owned by neighbors) and I don't want any of them attacked by my dogs accidently. And my other excuse would be to keep the feces off my lawn. So i was wandering does any one know of any methods of keeping cats off their property? and please don't say poison or trapping - these cats are most likely owned by neighbors (while some are stray) - so they won't be too happy about that either.

  • Dog food - nutro or natura innova/evo?

I previously asked a question regarding what I should look for in the content of dog foods besides the primary and second ingredients. My dogs are on nutrients with a low 20's pecentage in protein. Is it wise to switch to a higher protein dog food even tho they are doing fine with what they are eating? I am leaning towards Natura Innovo or Evo with a 42% protein content.

  • What does a dog need in their diet?

I was reading a previous post regarding dog food. I understand when buying dog food, you want to look at the ingredients, not just at the ingredients but the primary and secondary. I feed my dogs nutro - all of them has been on nutro simply because our vet recommended it and can be purchased at a pet store easily. However there is a site that rates dog foods but doesn't say how it is rated except for listing out the percentages of protein, fat, and fiber. Should an owner be concerned be concerned about fiber? I know as humans we need fiber to ... ahem poop? what about dogs? some dogs food has high protein but very low fiber. what is best for the dog? I have corgis if that helps answer my question

  • Dog is sneezing and coughing?

First off, please don't tell me to "immediately take him to the vet" i've a lot of ppl say Immediately take a dog to the vet even when the dog is simply not eating.

Here are the details: I have a 10 month old corgi, 4 months ago he started sneezing A LOT. I did infact take him to the vet at the that time and they checked him out and said he's fine as long as there isn't any mucous discharge. So that came and went and he did infact get better. Starting yesterday, my corgi has been sneezing a lot again - this time coughing too. I know if I take him into the vet they will say the same thing. Does anyone know why this happens? allergies? cold? I let him out during the morning but it's not too cold - I go out in shorts and a t shirt and i'm ok - and he has thick fur. I did recently take him to the dog park and dog beach - none of the dogs he came into contact with at the park were sneezing and he didn't really come into contact with any other dogs at the beach.

  • TV goes black?

My LCD tv goes black when I'm watching it - this TV is not that old but is no longer under warranty. When it's own I see the picture, but after 30 minutes it goes black and I still hear the sound. The length of time it remains on is now getting short (10 minutes now) most of the time when i turn it off for several minutes and turn it back on, the picture will come back on again. I am sure it's not the bulb - if it is the picture will not come back on at all - I think it maybe the motor - are there any other possibilities? how much would it be to fix this problem?

  • Kayak Surf Zone Launch?

I'm planning to go on a kayaking tour which requires a surf zone launch. I'm a little skeptical about this due to a fear and my ability in swimming. Is there anything that I need to know to prepare myself? I understand I need to paddle pass the breakers, what are the chances of my kayak getting tipped over at the breakers? what should I do? Is it easier to launch during low tide?
