you didn't say which engine you have ,but most of those cars had a problem with oil pressure, the oil pumps would go out on some of those before they hit 80 thousand miles,i have replaced a few for that ,i have also had to clean the oil pan out because of a sludge build up in the oil pan,and its possible you may have a bad crank shaft in it,that may be where your knock is coming from, when the oil pressure drops it does damage to the crank and the rod bearings in those, and that's usually where you get the knocking noise from, you can have a mechanic listen to it and get his opinion,it wont cost you nothing to do this, good luck with it.

Double check your oil level first to see if it is low. If it is knocking as bad as you make it sound, go get a used engine from a scrap yard with the lowest possible mileage. Rebuilding that engine probably will not be worth it. Or see how much an engine shop has one for. They may well take the old one as a core trade-in.

i counsel you to have a sparkling remanufactured transmission from widespread automobiles put in. the cost may be greater, yet you would be attentive to your getting a sparkling synthetic extremely than "rebuilt" transmission. there's a huge distinction between the two, such using fact the guaranty. i don't be attentive to ways good the guaranty from the keep's you point out is, yet i could extremely have a rustic huge GM guarantee. yet another selection could be to have a close-by Jasper Engine and Transmission save installation a sparkling remanufactured Jasper transmission which you will cost out on line.

Weak oil pump, very common. Use thinner oil in the winter.
