would this be considered a weapon?
i made a gun that uses two xenon tubes and some high-voltage capacitors to create a bright temporarily blinding flash of light. would it be considered a weapon? or illegal to use on people? the light is bright enough to temporarily blind a person.

Good question.
I suspect that if the intent was to disable someone, even temporarily, and it could do so, it would be considered a weapon.
It would be illegal like a flashbang.
You might check with your local law enforcement agency.
I would not bring the thingy there, just your description.

Anything that you consider a "gun" and can do harm to a person would be considered a weapon, and as it can temporarily blind someone i'm assuming if you used it on someone they could report you to the authorities.

I'm not a criminal attorney, but unless the person can end up dead, I wouldn't classify it as a weapon. Still, anything can be used as a weapon- a stapler, a shovel, a chair, a car, etc., so in that sense if you can hold it in your hand and whack someone, it might be a "weapon." You might ask the people to whom this could be important- ask your local cops.

If someone threatens you with serious bodily harm or death, or someone enters your residence and you believe they mean to cause you serious bodily harm or kill you, you can use anything available as an aid in defending your life; if the light doesn't temporarily blind them, poke the thing into their eyes and then shove it down their throat and don't forget to plug it in, just before you shoot them with your 45 caliber semiautomatic whatever.

Heck yea! I think Boba Fett had one too! He beat up a Gungan with it in a juice bar on the planet of Naboo.

a lighter in your hand when you punch someone is considered a weapon, so yes I think a device purpose built to blind people would be considerd a weapon, duh
