Basically your dog is still a puppy. What you need to do is make sure your pup has a lot of chewy toys. GS ar known to be chewers. Any dog can bite at anytime, it is just a matter of how much control you have over your dog. If this concerns you or if you feel you have a rather dominant dog then go to training classes and read about how to be a good dog owner.

If someone forces entry to your home and gets bitten, then they can sue, people can sue for anything but that does not mean they would win. I doubt any sane judge would side with the bugler, i know there have been cases like that reported in the media but it is because the person breaking in successfully suing is such a rare occurrence that it is reported. Unprovoked bites - like the house guest incident and bites in public areas are the ones that would get dog owners into the most trouble.

German Shepherds are very hyper and active dogs and yes they will bite when they're excited. You have to let him/her know now who's the alpha-boss between you two now by not letting it get away with biting you...even in fun.Put your hand up flat against it's face and sternly say NO when it nips you.Don't smack it's nose....that doesn't work.Kepp saying NO over and over and if it keeps nipping at you then put it in a corner or outside as punishment so it knows you mean business.

My 14.5 month old German Shepherd still bites and chews everything which is why he is still crated when no one is home. Oddly enough he only bites the people he likes (he thinks he's being affectionate but it really hurts), but won't bite you if he respects you. Your puppy is still teething, which is why he's biting. Teach him it is unacceptable now and he won't do it later. Raise him right and you will have a loyal, loving, faithful companion. Watch out because they are VERY smart.

You might want to teach bite inhibition while the puppy is at the right age. It will help set the stage for his entire future. The link I have included may need to be copied and pasted into a word document to make it more readable. Or look up Dr Ian Dunbar - it's based on his techniques.

  • at 2 months, a pup will play with the owner like he's a litter mate. but it does need to be curbed. no dog should ever bite the hand that feeds it. practise now taking toys and food away. DON'T tease, it's a learning excersise. you want to curb any possible aggression now while the pup is young.

in play, yes, but it shouldn't hurt. At 2 months old, the puppy doesn't know any better and is probably teething. Give them something else to chew on and give them a firm "NO" if they start to bite too hard. You don't want to start any bad habits.

The dog should only bite to the extent you allow him too...My dog knows he is allow to play bite my hands or when we are playing can bite at my pant legs when I'm running from him but nothing else. I am the only one he even attempts this with. He doesn't play with others like this but it is our way of play.
