What would make?

a car rev if you are not giving it gas? Could it be the throttle is stuck? I had to put it in park and shut it off because it was going by itself down the road. I gave it a little gas and it took off. I got to the stop light and the engine was reving really loud like I was going 100 mph! Anyone with any ideas? Thanks. It's a 94 Pontiac Grand Am.

    1. check the accelerator pedal and all of its VISIBLE fulcrum points (or turny-bits) that allow pedal and any piece of metal or cable connected to it , for grit or dust or dirt , then remove the ` yukky stuff` and then spray with a Lubricant to allow `smooth` movement of any component

    (if no `yukky stuff`....spray with lube , any-way , won`t hurt)

    2. do the same inspection of any Visible fulcrum point , under the Bonnet and spray , like-wise.

    3. if this does NOT WORK , then it is possibly a worn Throttle Link-age at the Carburettor it-self and will require some-one with the knowledge to rectify the problem.

    4. worn or flat-spotted Pivot arm that controls the move-ment of the "Butter-fly" , in-side the carburettor.

the butter-fly controls the amount of air that goes in with the amount of fuel that goes into the engine from the carburettor.

closed b/f(no pressure on throttle = low revs or Idle speed

open b/f (foot pressure on throttle = increase of revs = car go `Vroom , Vroom`)

    5. flat-spotted Throttle Regulator Cam (plastic thingy that you WON`T see , if you don`t know what you`re looking for). remove and replace with a new and suitable one.

most carburettor parts are made of an Alloy...and will wear at the drop of a hat , for no real reason.

don`t forget , that any moving part will have a problem with "friction" and that includes cables that are fitted in-side of plastic casings (which is why i suggested to lube any fulcrum points , earlier) and the Parts that you cannot see , in-side of the carburettor , are susceptible to wear as well , and you won`t be able to notice that.

good luck and you can contact me (if you wish , through my Profile) on your success and/or failure...!

Could be lots of things, but you probably have something making the gas pedal stick. Maybe a loose floor mat?

Cruise control wouldn't do that, BTW. As soon as you touch the brake it disengages.

Sounds like it is stuck. Do not drive it, tow it to a shop.
