Cheyenne, I've been playing for 30+yrs and there is always something more to learn. I've been playin for pay for 25 yrs full and part-time in various bands and now am a worship leader and in a Christan Rock Band. Personally I think I'm still a hack.... but I am havin a ball doin what I get to do now.......1/2 hr a day will get you closer to where you want to be, but mostly have fun....... music is a art not a competition!!!!

How good do you really want to play? I am happy playing just three chords (A, D, and E), because they are in most of the songs I want to play. I learned them pretty well in a couple of weeks.
I am sure that if I applied about 30 minutes a day, I could learn about a chord a week, but I don't have that kind of time. Instead, I have concentrated on getting the most out of those three chords as possible.
That's why they call me the "Three Chord Monte."
Are you trying to learn new things every day, or are you taking the time to learn how to do what you know very well? If you try the latter, you may be happier with the sound you ultimately get than if you live by the former.

5-6 hours a day sounds ridiculous. Don't listen to the above post.
You should be practicing 5-6 hours per week. Even less is fine if you don't get the time. And a teacher would be very helpful. Most charge about $40 per lesson (kind of expensive, but if you really want to play guitar, it's worth it). Otherwise, you can go to the music store and get one of those self-teaching books if you haven't already. Just spend about 1 week on each lesson. Trust me and don't skip around, or otherwise, you'll not get enough practice in a single area and you'll end up forgetting everything you learned.
Yeah...it's tedious. But after a while, you'll be thankful you took the time to learn. :)
