HELP! Affect of drag suits on swimming/racing.........?
My son's coach made him wear his stretched team suit over a normal suit in an important meet. The team and swim shop didn't have another suit in his size and the coach insisted to me that it wouldn't affect his time. Isn't the point in racing to reduce drag by buying speed suits instead of creating drag with a drag suit. He told me some people choose to wear drag suits in racing sometimes. I think he if full of s*** and was just too stubborn to give in and let him wear another suit. He is a state level swimmer and I'm not sure how to remedy this argument with his coach. I've ordered him a race suit but won't have the team suit until they place a minimum order which isn't my fault. Does anyone have any facts that I can use to dispute the coaches claim that a drag suit will not affect his race times? Please help!

I agree but there is no point in arguing with your son's coach. I'm a high school state level swimmer and i wear a drag suit to all the huge invites and even our conference meet. The point of a drag suit is to make you go even faster at the end of the season. Coaches will always be stubborn with thier ways and eventually your son will realize that wearing a drag suit isn't the end of the world. Trust me i didn't want to do it at first but i got over it.

drag suits are called drag suits because they cause drag
drag slows you down if your sons coach doesnt kno this hes kinda stupid cause im 12 and even i kno that
since drag suits cause so much drag they cause the water to slo down and no matter how hard your son tries he'll never be able to swim as fast as he could with a racing suit
if your son is swimming at state lvl you should buy him a racing suit
buy 2 just in case so that if it rips or something you have an extra
use drag suits in practice since they create drag they will make your son work harder and he will be able to do so much faster in meets
plz dont ignore this answer just cause im 12
Source(s): i have swam for a long time my coach swam under the instruction of george haines and swam with the all known mark spitz my coach tells us everything that we need to work on and all the info we could need about a swim meet - 1 decade ago
yeah he's full of it... swimmer wear drag suits in pratice to create "drag" which slows them down so they have to work harder to accomplish something that would be easy if they didn't have the drag suit on, so they will be faster at a meet. if the coach wont listen to you just tell your son when he's behind the block to take off the drag suit before he gets up if he want to win/get a good time.
