What classic car should I buy? Up to £4000 to spend?
I am looking for a 'sensible' classic (or distinctive modern car) for up to £4000. Requirements - must seat 2 adults and 2 kids (pref room for a third); Not too expensive to run; decent boot space. Have been thinking about an MGB GT, but would like something similar, but with a bit more room...any ideas?
Thanks
(by the way, I am in the UK)
A Jaguar XJS is also on my list to consider

I have an MGB GT, and, unless your kids are the size of small rabbits you won't get them to stay in the back for more than a few minutes at a time - no leg room or back support in the back seat - great car otherwise. Jag will cost a fortune to run. Have you condidered a Porche 928 - fast, fun, bulletproof engine and reasonable room. Rover P6? loads of room, good club support. MG magnette (I've one of these too), very distinctive, nice to drive, lasts forever, very good club support.

Your kids certainly won't enjoy being stuck in the back of an MGB, especially when they get bigger! I'm having the same thoughts as you at the moment (but without the consideration of ankle-biters!) and I'm thinking Capri, Manta, old BMW 3 or 5 series, XJS (but VERY expensive to run!), early Sierra XR4i or Saab 900 Turbo, even an Opel Monza if I can find a good 'un.
Try reading a few classic car mags for inspiration and tips.
Have fun!

A Stag would be nice, but if you're going to use it regularly, four grand ain't gonna buy one that will do that for you.
You'll get a good 80's Jag for that, but you'll need a mortgage for the fuel bill.
Have you thought of early 80's BMW's? If you look carefully, you can find some really mint examples of 3 or 5 series for that kind of money. They will be low mileage one or two owner cars - they are comfortable, fast and easily capable of dealing with today's traffic. Spares are readily available. What's more, if you look after it, it will probably go up in value.

Now-a-days, you like distinctive money to possess a classic motor vehicle, simply by fact of each and every of the artwork that has to circulate into it. With present day autos, you do no longer ought to worry approximately that too plenty. it is likewise especially confusing to locate areas for many classic autos, now-a-days.

XJS, but it has to be the V12, or an XJ6 two door coupe, you might struggle with that on four grand though.
