Main bearings (crank shaft) can burn out for several reasons. You could have had low oil pressure due to a faulty oil pump, you could have had a weak spring in your oil bypass valve letting dirt and metal particles circulate through your engine, a crankshaft that was out of balance. there are a lot of reasons...

With no oil pressure they would get super hot and burn out from friction as the engine is running.
It could happen in as little as two minutes.

sometimes they just wear out faster than they should
other times they run forever without a single problem

you should let it run and warm up
before you drive it
even in warm weather
the bearings are loose when cold
