They probably named him that because it will get your attention and wonder why he is called House. It a good uncommon name for sure.

The character of house is based on Sherlock Holmes. Get it? Holmes... House. There are many other little touches in the series to indicate the House - Holmes connection, including the fact that his apartment number is the same as that of the great detective in the Conan Doyle books.

it's a valid question I guess.....My guess would be, that someone who was involved with the development of the show liked the name house, so they named the show "House, M.D." It is kinda catchy if you think about it. How many doctors do you know named house? In my opinion, it's better than calling it something like, "Turner, M.D." or, "Brown, M.D." it's just house!

My youngest son has severe asthma, where he takes meds everyday and has had to go to the ER.
