my hair is light brown layered and shoulder length
i normally straighten it or put it half up

A loose high pony tail from yesterday's straightened hair is always cute, especially if you put it a bit on the side. Or two braids depending upon how layered your hair is? This is really cute with a hat, if your a hat type of person! Also, if your hair has a bit of a natural wave to it you can get a mousse or something then put it in your hair after you shower and scrunch it. If your hair is thick enough you could always go with the messy bun. =]

if you're aiming on retaining it for the entire day i might say maintain it directly as curled hair has a tendency to fall out via the top of the day. i believe hair up with a couple of curls escaping might seem fairly well!
