Has anyone else ever had their dog scream? My dog SCREAMED before her seizure last night...scary?

My Labbie had repeated seizures yesterday...nothing seems to stop them. But last night she actually screamed before two episodes of seizures. She's only 2 and I think I might need to euthanize...it's heart breaking.

Yes!!! It's the most horrible thing I've ever heard. My husband and I were in a paddle boat with our lab who decided to jump out to go swimming but as we started to paddle away he panicked and let out this God awful scream like I've never heard before.

I'm so sorry about your pup. Sometimes euthanizing them is the more humane thing to do but if you love your lab like I love mine then that decision is not going to be an easy. I wish you luck, hang in there.

What's up with the thumbs down??

  • I would be much more concerned that the dog had repeated seizures than the fact that she screamed. Are you aware dogs can become exhausted after repeated seizures and can die? Did you at least take the dog into a vet? Are you aware there are many kinds of anti seizure medications available to give a dog that will allow it to live comfortable for years?

Our dog is on medication and has not had a seizure since she started. Contact your Vet.

Get her to the vet for bloodwork to find out what is causing the seizures. If there it ends up being idiopathic epilepsy (basically seizures with no known cause) they can start her on phenobarbital and/or Keppra to control the seizures. A month's supply of phenobarbital will run you anywhere from $10-$20 depending on your vet. You can learn more about seizures here:

they have medication for dog seizure and they need more work. Unless you are not willing to pay for the meds..she doesn't need to be euthanize. Talk to your vet about it. She's too young to die.

Why do you think you'll have to euthanize her?! Has she even been to the vet yet? Epileptic dogs can still live almost normal lives with meds and reg vet visits!! Are you not willing to take her in? If you already have what did the vet say?

Have you actually been to a vet, a specialist, and tried medications to prevent the seizures?

  • Have you tried meds? If she is that young and has a good quality of life. You shouldn't euthanize her. You should go to the vet!
