Panhead, Knucklehead, ShovelHead, Evolution, TC88 Bighead,,,,whats the best motor HD ever put out and why?
I presently have a 95 Evo 1340...Andrews EV27 cam...seems to pull in all gears with this mild cam. with a 2 into 1 thunderheader pipes. Hurting the engine when I pull it hard? I only move it when it gets mighty warm...we ride almost all year long out here in SoCal, so our bikes see lots of miles a year. no need for winter storage, other than battery tender and regualr oil changes and fluid changes, what else can i do to ensure long life? thanks in advance and ride safe!

I'd say the Evo, the TC has that funky cam chain tensioner issue.
I don't think any of Harley's other motors come close to the miles an Evo will run unopened,
To ensure long life, Proper Oil and intervals, oil cooler and proper fuel/air ratio to keep it running cool.

The VRSC motor. 120HP at the crank by just showing up. The VRod is eons ahead of any other HD ever built. I've ridden everything from a 48 Panhead to a Screaming Eagle Ultra, and for MY money, there is only one choice.

Panhead is the best,it looks the best and i have one.
Been riding it for the last 20 years and only had to put pan gaskets on it once its been a great bike.!!!!!

every engine harley ever made has issues
knuckles leaked oil from the tins on the head
pans leaked also, and as with knucs they had a lousey intake manifold design.T shaped.
shovels, improvements over knuc and pan ,but still hard to wring out all the usable H.P
Evo can get more hp from stock displacement evo than 98 CID shovel problem; spitting out cylinder base gaskets at about thirty-five thousand. First on I took apart still had the hatch marks on the cylinders. AT 35,000MILES!!!!!!!!
Twinky; lousy head design, evo breathes better, cheapout on cams. chain instead of gears. Bottom ends are press fit together instead of keys and nuts with locks.
the best motor is the one that brings a smile to your face just looking at it ,because you can't see it when you're riding it.

The Evo 1340 is the closest to reliable HD has!
knucklehead, pan, shovel you'll be spending more time repairing than riding!
they would be fine for an unused show bike!

47 panhead, it's still the most restored classic hd ever put out & also 48 pan, have you ever heard one or fired 1 up!!! oh my god!!! however, fire up can be an issue it is all about the timing setting. but for shear class& power they were hd's best ever. go to a harley show!!!!!! you will see & hear why !!!!!
