why do tv manufacturers give their lcd televisions native resolutions like 1440x900 or 1366x768?
Those resolutions don't match up with 720p. Is displaying something in the non-native resolution not that big of a deal? I guess it's not if they make those tvs and people buy them.

Some resolutions date back from the PC era (PC monitors). In general, they pick resolutions that optimize the manufacturing process (yield the largest number of panels from a certain size "glass" ).
