MVP of the NBA?
I saw a question earlier making the case for LeBron to MVP over Kobe (as they are realistically the only two that should be considered for it). First off, let me say that I'm probably a little biased - I like Kobe and the Lakers a heckuva lot more than I like LeBron, but I'm willing to look past that.
LeBron has incredible numbers. Other-worldly, really. He scores, passes, rebounds, plays D, and does it all very, very well. Numbers-wise, he's having a much better year than Kobe. I'll admit it, that's fine. LeBron should rebound better - he's got height and size on Kobe. He's shooting a higher percentage because he can go to the rim more often. Kobe's got a lot more miles on him and has been hurt for a good majority of the year, so he's shooting more jump shots. LeBron should score more - he has really no other options for scoring on his team. Kobe does, and he's willing to let them take shots.
If he takes over the game and drops 35-40, people complain and call him selfish. He steps back and lets his teammates work, and people try to rub it in that he's not leading the league in scoring and LeBron is. Same goes for 4th Quarter scoring. Make no mistake - if Kobe wanted another scoring title, he'd have it. No, he wants a championship, and he's willing to sacrifice his scoring to get it. Is that bad?
Putting the numbers aside, though, consider this. Kobe has a torn ligament in his pinky, an injury which he should immediately have surgery for and would be out 6 weeks, probably leaving the Lakers out of the playoffs or in a bottom seed. Instead, he takes the pain and stays on the floor like he's always done, and they win and compete for the number 1 seed because of it. LeBron has sat out numerous games for trivial injuries - he's too soft and is unwilling to play through pain to help his team win. Reward a player for that? Really?
Further, there's a reason that something like 27 out of 30 league executives chose Kobe to have the ball in his hands with the game on the line. And why did none choose LeBron? Kobe is the league's most gifted flat-out scorer, no questions asked. LeBron will never see an 80-point game. He doesn't have that competitive drive in him, the killer instinct, to do something like that. He's too willing to pass in big moments (see last year's Finals), letting his teammates either have the glory or take the fall. He's been more dominant this year, yes, but this is just the regular season. I don't personally believe LeBron has the mentality it takes to lead his team to a title. I suppose that doesn't matter, as the MVP only considers regular-season games (which is ridiculous, but that's another argument).
Finally, it's simply about time Kobe get his due. He was always overshadowed by Shaq when they were together, and he still may be with the arrival of Gasol. Kobe is the face of the league. Whether people love him or hate him, he's the league's go-to guy. To be perfectly honest, LeBron has numbers this year that should net him the MVP. He probably will get it, and Kobe won't. Of course, Kobe would certainly rather have another title than some MVP award, but still... If Kobe goes his whole career without an MVP award, it'll be a huge mistake on the part of the coaches. I can't believe he doesn't have one yet, and I can't believe how many people feel he doesn't deserve one.
Ok, so it wasn't really a question, more of an argument as to why Kobe should be MVP and not LeBron. Thoughts?

Kobe was the MVP before they got Pau, now he's guaranteed to get it.

Wow nice stuff there buddy.... I am also in the same mindset as you are. Kobe Bryant is the leagues Most Valuable player. He has done it year in and year out. And to point something out really quickly, when Kobe was having Monster years with all the scoring and coming close to NBA records that only Wilt and Jordan have accomplished they still didnt give it to him and thats because they give it to the best player on the best team... where Kobe in the Lakers were in the 7th or 8th seed in the WEST. Now that Lebron is putting up those kind of numbers he team is not anywhere near the top, they are like 5th or 6th in the EAST, so if they do give it to Lebron and not Kobe this year than Kobe Bryant should just start playing Golf because that would be BS.

Kobe has one motivation piece that he knows would be on the mind of every nba fan and that is the fact that he has already 3 rings but it took Shaq in his prime to get them for Kobe. Kobe wants to go out and prove to people he can do it on his own without a major superstar next to him. That's fine but can we just sit back and look at the fact that it's not about who a better player is between Kobe and Lebron, so many people forget that Lebron has JUST turned 23 years old, Kobe is 30 this year!
Lebron has a far more polished all round game than Kobe did at 23, until Lebron is at the age of 30 I don't think we can put him down as far as his lack of killer instinct goes. Jordan didn't really have it until he got knocked around by Detroit 4 years in a row so we will just have to wait and see.

i thought kobe had at least 1 MVP already, wha ta surprise. I dont believe it. Kobe is without a doubt the leagues most skilled player. Lebrons a brute 6'8 240 and gets majority of his points at point blank range, and doesnt rly have a mid-range or outside shot. Kobe knocks down shots being double teamed because he is that good. A man all over him and he will still get that game winning bucket. He has deserved the MvP for the last 2 years in my opinion. This is his year. With Pau Gasol a part of the lakers squad their wins will put them possibly number 1 in the west. As for kobe's injury he could hurt himself permanently not getting it treated. Without him the lakers might drop to possible 4-5 seed but at least kobe would continue to help them each year. Kobe is striving for MvP dont even say all he wants is a championship cuz he wants both. Playing through this injury proves it.You have my vote. Kobe for MvP

mvp voters award wins and the lakers are on pace for significantly more wins than the cavaliers in a much more competitive conference. if you check hotspots for players
youd see that lebron shoots pathetically outside of 3 feet while kobe is around 40% on jumpers
but when it comes down to it if kobe leads this lakers team to at least 55 wins the award should be his just on wins alone

Wade has a risk however his now not going to win it for the reason that with a view to be a MVP your staff is consider to be the highest contenders. Wade has the identical season as kobe did two years in the past while he averages 30 whatever. Its both going to return all the way down to Kobe or James. Which ever staff achieve the highest seed. As for who's going to win the CHAMPIONSHIP I in my opinion feel LAKERS are going to be the CHAMPIONS. Just like some other staff they battle and they have got fought for someday now looking to reclaim their CHAMPIONSHIPS RINGS. With or with out Bynum their going to win it doesn't matter what. When it is time for them to stand playoff groups they arrive and play and beat them. That's why I feel their going to be the CHAMPS.

MVP goes to KB24 and that's it.. yes stats of lebron is way very good today but the important thing is winning the game and KB24's team is winning big With Him. (try to look at Bruce Bowen's Stat you cant see his stats that he has a large number of steals per game or blocks but he is one of the best perimeter defender in the league and he has been for years in the all defensive team) that is how KB24 explains why KB24 is the MVP compare to LBJ.. but maybe in the near Future LBJ will have his time because he has the hype and skills but hopefully he will not be afraid to take clutch shots anymore.. thats one of his problem.. but his good
runner ups:
CP3
LBJ23
Steve Nash
Dirk
