Good big guy's (meaning abnormally tall) starter motorcycle?
I stand 6' 7" (weigh around 200 lbs) with about a 36" inseam. I'd really like a cruiser, but don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I'd like it to be inexpensive but pretty (yes I know I may drop it, but I want something I'm willing to ride for a few years before I trade up). I was thinking about the Suzuki Boulevard c50. What do all you expert-types think? (and, yes, the BRC is a given when I finally get ready to ride).
JRIE, I'm willing to look at BMWs, but you don't suggest any models, nor do I believe they fit under my criteria for low cost.

I second the comment regarding cruiser cycles with forward controls. The arms forward, feet forward position is hard on the back. An upright seating position is more comfortable and allows better control. Dual sport bikes tend to have a greater seat to peg distance. Remember, a seat can be re-contoured to accommodate your formidable height. On many bikes the handlebars can be raised with the use of spacers.
Take a look at the Iron Butt website. There has to be riders that have completed the various distance to time requirements that are tall like you.

Stay away from Jap cruisers as your first bike.
The seat heights are to low for tall riders.
Your knees will be hitting the handlebars when turning.
When you put your feet down when stopping, the awkward position will make the bike very unstable.
Tall riders need a more sit up position.
Standard bikes - search the web for Honda cb750 nighthawk to see what they look like.
Or any dual purpose bike (on-off road because of the tall seat height).
Go to all the major manufacture dealers and sit on the bikes to see what you would feel comfortable on.

you particularly want a complete measurement cruiser, however for your cost variety so they can be difficult to uncover. A Marauder is a three/four measurement motorcycle, so is the Kawasaki Vulcan 800, however you must take a seat on one to peer if you're cozy. I am 6'three 275lb (37" sleeve, 34" inseam), and I have compatibility OK on my acquaintances 800 Vulcan. The vigour used to be no longer particularly an trouble, any cruiser over 600cc's might transfer you adequate, its no longer a racebike. take a seat on a number of motorcycles for your cost variety and uncover what suits quality. You can continually difference out the controls should you have to.
