on election night,the first return usually comes from where??

A. northwestern states

B. eastern states

C. midwestern states

D. far western states

    I'd think in the east and work their way west. Time zones would dictate what time the polls close, returns don't come in till the polls start closing, as far as I've noticed.

    From the Eastern States since they are in the Eastern Time zone, the polls close there first.

    Define what you mean by returns? Looking at the CNN election board on Election Night 2004, I got the impression that the first numbers came in from Kentucky (the first state to actually get votes on the board). If you mean which was the first state to be called that was GA at 7.00pm EST. However, if you mean which was the first state to report 100% of all precincts counted (excluding absentee ballots) that was Vermont which finished counting at 11.30pm EST.
