For those who sew? Web sites that sell fabric?
Hi all. I am an avid seamstress, quilter, dressmaker, etc. However, my choices for buying fabric in my hometown (Kansas City) are pretty limited to 1 high end fabric store and JoAnn's Etc. We do have plenty of quilting stores that sell quilting fabric though, but not much if you're sewing apparel. Would you share your favorite web sites that sell fabric with me? I'm specifically looking for some silk to line my daughter's prom dress which will be sewn from some silk charmeuse that I bought at Mood Fabrics in NYC, so it needs to be fairly lightweight. I'm just having a very hard time finding stuff online, and JoAnn's doesn't have anything, and the one decent store in town doesn't have anything either. Thanks in advance!

I get all my silk from exotic silks- you have to buy a minimum of a $100 but that's easy to do.
This is actually where all the stores get their silk from and then mark it up! I know, I use to do fabric retail and wholesale. I actually have to check out the website- because they sell retail and wholesale- you might need to call them because I don't know what catalog they have on the web- I still have all the old paper catalogs.
Also for fun- I love this website and buy a ton of fabric from them.

My favorite premium fabric store, since 1986, has been G Street (www.gstreetfabrics.com). G Street was my first choice when sewing wedding and evening gowns, business attire, and quality home decor. Until about seven years ago I was able to personally roam the aisles of the D.C. area fabric store. Presently, I reside in central Texas and have found a few decent local quilting stores. Of course, there are the standards -JoAnn's and Hancock Fabrics. Occasionally, I still place orders through G Street Fabrics, but I miss caressing the beautiful textiles there. Good luck with your hunt.

fabric.com has a nice variety and good prices.
Believe it or not, eBay is good too! I just bought fabric on eBay yesterday. 2 lots of 6 yards for 8.99 per 6 yards and it was 100% cotton.

Have not personally ordered from them, but the site looks luscious - worth checking out.
