If I have my flowers wrapped in my great grandmother's handkercheif will it ruin the handkercheif?

I wanted the handkercheif to be seen but the colors are very bold, I thought it would look very beautiful wrapped around the stems of my flowers. Is there a way to do this and protect the handkercheif from being ruined?

Thanks all...

I would have the florist put floral tape around the flowers first,(they do have different colors) and then wrap the handkerchief around. My cousin is a florist and I've seen it done and it looked beautiful.

    Good Luck : >)

I"m glad you asked this question, because I am doing the same exact thing. I haven't really looked into it yet, but I would say try not to stick alot of pins through it because it will weaken the material...maybe wrap it around the stems and use ribbon or string to secure it instead of stabbing it with sharp pins.

I will probably wrap mine around but leave the corner out to go over my hand when holding it because I want it to be clearly seen and by some miracle it does have my colors in it (pink) and I know my Grandma will be so happy that I thought to use it.

Quite possibly. Antique fabric might not stand up to all of those fluids, sweat and oil from you hands, and the pressure caused by wrapping the stems. You just might wind up with a handful of threads.

A better option would be to take your great grandmother's handkerchief to a fabric store and match it to some cotton ribbon. Have two or three colors of ribbon professionally wrapped around your bouquet. Tuck your precious keepsake into your bodice or purse and keep it safe.

What a beautiful idea. How about wrapping the flowers in either clingfilm or getting the florist to tape the stems for you. Alternatively, why not pin the handkerchief to your waist or the end of a sleeve or something similar. I think this is such a lovely idea.

I had my bouquet wrapped in ribbon, like normal, and then I pinned my mom's handkercheif to the base of it. It looked pretty, because it draped down, but it didn't ruin the kercheif and it sort of looks like I am holding it.

I wouldn't use it as the primary wrap for your flowers, because if it is damaged I am sure you would be very upset.

ok, once the flowers are ready for wrapping i would put them in a freezer bag, yep, a Glad or whatever brand, zip lock freezer bag. once they are in the bag fold the around the stems and then tape! tape~tape~tape ... making sure you have taped from the very bottom pf the bag and stems to up and over the lip of the bag. now that it is taped wrap a thin white cotton hankie aroud it and then your gran's beautiful hankie. that way you'll have a couple of layers between the flowers and the hankie and it will be perfectly safe!

btw what a sweet and unique idea! i will have to remember that one! good luck!

I did this exact thing wrap your flowers in plastic wrap just enough to protect the hankerchief your flowers will be fine until the wedding is over.

could you line the handkerchief with something and then wrap it around the stems?
