Can trees die from...?

old age? I have never heard anyone tell me so, and have just thought up the concept this fine afternoon. Thanks in advance!! :0)

    Yes trees can die of old age. Trees, via photosynthesis, makes their own energy for growth and life. Once a tree reaches a certain size (this will vary by species) the amount of energy it needs to live surpasses what it can produce. At this point the vigor and the health of the tree deteriorates. As this happens it is more susceptible to insect and disease damage and will eventually die.

    Oh yes. Here in southern Illinois most the white oak over about 130 years old have heart rot. These trees are essentially dying very slowly. Eventually, it will die or a storm will force it to the ground. There are actually a number trees that die and remain standing.

    Yes! I have a tree in my driveway, and it's hundreds of years old and almost dead.
