How do I patch my bathtub?

I noticed a chip in the white coating of my bathtub. The black portion (I don't know what the tub's made from but perhaps metal or fiberglass) is showing through. The chip is about the size of a dime. It isn't actually a chip as it is the white coating is sort of peeling. Is there anything to patch or coat this with so it doesn't spread or get worse?

Your tub is steel enamel so you can get a repair kit at any home improvement store. But if it is a deep hole there is nothing that will fix it permanently so you will have to get a professional to come and fefinish it. Cost for that is about $100. Cost for apoxy patch up about $20.

Home Depot or Lowes sells an epoxy enamel kit made for refinishing bath tubs. To fix the chips first use cleaner in kit to remove soap scum then use automotive bondo and a putty knife to fill chipped areas let cure then sand even and continue to rough up entire surface of tub so epoxy enamel has something to bite into and follow kit instruction apply finish and for best finish use an hvlp paint sprayer to apply finish. There are also tub refinishing businesses out there you can get quotes from if this sounds like to much.
