why do my firefox bookmarks disappear???

my firefox bookmarks have been disappearing periodically, and so have my tab shortcuts, with no apparent reason. is there a folder from which i can retrieve them from?

    Here's what I do: go to View, click on Toolbars, and check the Add-on Bar if it isn't checked, or uncheck it if it is. That brings them back for me. I don't know why.

    Why not try foxmarks, very good if you use more than one computer...
