Act intelligent, respectful, and cultured. Most Canadians do. The vast majority of Americans lack the above.

Go ahead and show your smarts. Show them why the Canadian educational system is so much better up here (with few exceptions like MIT, Harvard, etc.). I have met so many brainwashed, ignorant, and intellectually uninspiring Americans that your questions does not surprise me, it simply confirms what I already know.

Americans are so wrapped up in themselves and their own misconceptions that they never bother to learn about anyone else.

Tell your American friends that they are doing a good job of acting American.

I have a friend from London Ont. and I never knew she was Canadian until she told me when we first met. Canadians dotn have to "act" a certian way. There accent is almost like an american with the exeption of a few words such as "about" (a-boot) haha.

You are fine and ignore those people.

i'm Canadian and that i don't pronounce "out" as "oat". truly, very very few human beings in my city have the Canadian accessory all of us says we've :S. truthfully, we've the right comparable accessory as those on American television. different than human beings from Newfoundland, they have an exceptionally diverse scottish/irish-form accessory. besides... do we actually act bizarre? lol i don't think of so :S

They probably just have mis-conceptions about how Canadians really act. If you really wanna rile 'em up, say "washroom" instead of "restroom". Everytime I go to the States and ask for the washroom, they say, "You mean the restroom?" and I'm just thinking I don't care what it's called at the moment, because either way I still really need to use it...

LOL .... I'd be curious about what they meant, too. Why don't you ask them? It sounds like it would be an interesting conversation!

Maybe try spelling colour with a "u" and calling zee, zed, and you will seem more Canadian. Other than that, beats me! Good luck, eh!

Act Canadian? I have no clue what it means.Well, just be yourself.

Just be yourself. I think they expect you to end sentences with, eh? and to use certain pronunciations of words. Who cares what they think. Be yourself and you are being Canadian.

Americans are under the stereotype that Canadians are hicks that are super friendly and retarded. Act like that and you should fill their expectations.

We Canadians don't have to act. WE'RE CANADIAN!
