First of all...Congratulations for reaching 7th grade...not far to go now.........I play piano as well and I love my classical music. Here are some of my favourites.....The piano by Nyman...Fur Elise by Beethoven....A simple grade 2 that I love to play is Mozart's sonata in C, I like it because Its in C and a very lively piece with lovely left and right hand harmony. Another favourite of mine is the Warsaw concerto by Addinsell.....It brings back memories of when I was young, and the film called The Dream Of Olwin. Another is Pathetique sonata, again by Beethoven. And of course...Air on a G string From Suite No 3 In G Major by Bach.....I could go on for ever because there are so many that Love and like to play...Keep up the good work and maybe one day I will hear you play.....As for modern music,,,Well you can take your choice......One for me that gets everyone slapping me on the back is "APACHI" Originally played by the Shadows soon after Cliff Richard went solo....Its lively piece and I have never ever heard anyone else play it before....All the very best to you when you decide to take your grade 8.....XXXXX

It's good that you asked this question if you don't know many classical composers. There are many good emotional and sad pieces to play for the piano that are indeed classical music. A heavy and sad piece would be Chopin's Winter Wind etude in a minor, his Ocean etude in c minor, opus 25, number 12, his revolutionary etude in C minor, and Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody Number 2. These are all pieces that are very emotional, heavy, and dramatic at the same time that are sad for the most part, but touching at the same time. These are beautiful pieces worth listening to. If you want an easier piece, Chopin's Waltz in C sharp minor would also be very heavy and pretty but that is also sad. It's great that you were looking for a sad piece, because that is what attracts many people to like you. Best wishes, and I hope you do a great job for playing for the guy you like. I hope everything goes well and that he comes to like you. P.S.- Don't forget to tell him your feelings after you talk to him. But make sure you play first.

You may already played some of these. Everyone's levels are little different. Piano Sonatas go without saying but here are some other choices.

    Schubert Impromptus

    Debussy Preludes

    Joplin Rags

Bach Prelude & Fugues or 2 & 3 Part Inventions

Hey, congrats on finishing your grade 7. The best is to check with your teacher as she/he knows what kind of genre you are into. Also, try to get a music syllabus method book E.g this is an example of what we have in Australia (http://www.ameb.nsw.edu.au/publications/index.html... We call it manuel of Syllabus-Music Syllabus. Do try to check it out if there is an equivalent e.g Trinity etc.

In terms of expression, here are some pieces i've played for my 8th grade.

    Debussy:- The Sunken Cathedral

    Liszt- Au Lac De Waldenstadt

Have fun looking for them :-). Also, do check out some music stores and look for their grade books e.g grade 8. There might be some in there that you like. :-)

    Hope this helps :-)

Rage over a lost penny - by Beethoven

Makes me smile and very showy/impressive to play.

    Anything by Scott Joplin.

Anything by Nobou Uemastu - not many of people have heard of him. Check out some of his music:
