How early is TOO early to run a gas powered lawnmower?
This morning, a neighbor started mowing at 7:45am. It's a Saturday, and I thought this was really inappropriate and inconsiderate of him. The acoustics within our properties are horrible.
I waited until 8:15am, and then went outside. I asked him why he had to run that machine so early on the weekend. He said "the Red Sox were on later" I said just because he was awake, didn't mean that everyone else was. I asked him if he could possibly either mow during the week, or at least wait until later. He did in fact stop. I don't think I was rude, but I do feel a little uncomfortable now after calling him on it.
My question is:
What IS an appropriate time to run a VERY loud gas powered mower on the "weekend"??

9. Anything before 9 is inconsiderate on the weekend. As is allowing children to run around the garden screaming and letting dogs out to bark. During the week, it's far more flexible. I'd say 7:45 was acceptable during the week.
As long as you weren't abrasive, I don't think you need to feel awkward. If you hadn't said anything, he'd have assumed he had gotten away with it and done it again, the next time the Red Sox were playing.

Depending on your location and the weather, I don't think 7:45 is too early. I live in West Texas where the heat is absolutely deadly during the summer months and most folks get out and mow as early as possible, like daybreak early.
I do live in a sub-division, where the houses are little closer together than anywhere I've ever lived before, but I still crank up the lawnmower between 7:00 and 7:30 on weekends. Most of my neighbors do the same, so it's not really a problem. It's the healthy way to do yard work around here..........

I probably wouldn't have bothered him unless I had a sleeping baby. Then I would have gotten down right rude. But the thing is people try to mow early in the morning to miss the midday heat. However since it is still pretty chilly here in Georgia, nobody has starting mowing yet. I think an appropriate time would at least be 9.

I would say 10. Maybe 9 if it is the middle of the summer and it starts getting hot out early in the day.
I hate it when my neighbors wake me up before 10. I'm up late studying for school during the week, an wake up at 6, so during the weekend I need to catch up on my sleep and it annoys me when I don't! People should learn to be respectful.

atleast it wasn't a loud snowblower. We can't mow our grass yet, theres still a good foot of snow on top of it (in Wisconsin).

I would ask my closest neighbors what time they usually get up so that I did not disturb them.
