Can you name some intense choral pieces besides the usual O Fortuna from the Carmina Burana?
I love O Fortuna the opening to the Carmina Burana and similar choral or operatic music but i'm looking for something with the passion and intensity of Orff or Wagner. I've heard one piece used on TNT and Cartoon network in ads but have no clue what it is. Apparizione Di Afrodite is pretty good but lacks the power and intensity of the Carmina Burana.

Try the Mozart Requiem, the Verdi Requiem, Britten War Requiem. There seems to be a pattern here!! Also look for the Allegri Miserere for beauty. Janacek Glagolithic Mass is fun too.

The opening choruses from Bach's St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion are both incredible. So is the closing chorus from the St. Matthew Passion. There are a lot of powerful choruses in the Bach Mass in B minor.
Turning to Mozart, the Kyrie from the Mass in C minor is pretty powerful stuff. The Beethoven Missa Solemnis has a number of big choruses in it.
If you want to go big--and I mean REALLY big--try the opening movement of the Mahler Symphony No. 8 (The Symphony of a Thousand). It is a massive setting of the "Veni Creator Spiritus." Another Mahler you might consider is the last movement of the Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection Symphony), which ends with a mighty choral peroration.

Try the Finale from Mozart's "Don Giovanni", when the commander appeared to Don Giovanni's dinner. It's not (only) choral but it's so powerful and intense!
