I need help with picking a guitar!?

I have always wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I have had no lessons nor do I even own a guitar yet!

I am interested in playing blues, jazz, and some reggae what type of guitar should I buy and what is the best way to start learning.

Should I pratice on my own? Get lessons, read a book, or what? What method is best for a true beginner.

first, youll need the tools of the trade (:

based on your type of music (and i dont know your budget)

and that you are a begginer, i suggest the fender squire strat pack.has the guitar, amp, cord, strap, tuner, all you need to start for about 200.00 american.as far as lessons go. the best way is with a live person,it cost more but it is better,if you have a question you cant ask the book (: the next best thing is instructional videos.www.guitarplayer.com www.guitartricks.com

www.guitar.com etc..... the last way is books. books ARE good

material for learning chords and scales. but how do you know if your doing right with out feed back from a person or at least a video you can hear what it SUPPOSE to sound like.

as far as books, the Mel Bay series has ben around forever and is good as far as that goes.be careful about the you tube stuff. just because a guy can play real good dont mean he can teach. there is a difference!watching some super flashy guitar player go at it for eight hours a day will not teach you nothing if you dont have basics first.if i can help any more.ill be glad to.just mail
