What happens if you don't pay a mobile phone bill (ever) ?

So the story goes like this: I added my friend to my plan, the bill was outrageous, he stopped paying his half and I had to get him cancelled. There was a fee for that, and afterwards I owed 270 total. Since I couldn't afford that, I saw no point in paying so I didn't pay at all. The bill is now 500 bucks and I don't use it but they still haven't had it shut off. I suppose I'll have to call. Anyhow, they will charge me early termination which will put it at probably nearly 700 dollars. There's no way I'm paying that, ever.

But I am afraid of what will happen.

I've heard they can't garnish your wages (they can't garnish mine anyhow because I detail cars from my house - I don't have a legit job I guess) but my dad says they will sue me. What will come of it?

It will destroy your credit and that has long term consequences. As long as you pay a little bit at a time, they won't do a thing.

As long as the service is current, you owe the money. You can choose to pay it or not. If you choose not to pay it, it will go to collections and screw up your credit.

You don't have a "legit" job? Do you report income and pay taxes? They'll find it. Do you make an income but don't report it and don't pay taxes? They'll find that, too.

    Just pay the damn bill.

well if u dont pay it then u dont get the phone

and yea u might be sued who knows what will happen but u get in lots of trouble for not paying bills!

so i would do something like shut off ur phone bill for a while and earn some money!

I don't think they'll sue but probably cancel your plan or something like that. They might notify a bank, that'll probably effect your credibility.

they'll send it to a collection agency who will send you several letters and then eventually they will bargain with you to pay the bill at a lower rate
