Screensaver were made because back in the day of their invention computer monitor would get a 'burnt in' image of something/anything that remained in place for too long. A screensaver 'saved' the screen by taking off the monotonous image & at the same time preventing burn in.

It still does. However there are more efficient ways to do it, including setting a power save option to turn screen off in 5-10 minute after disuse.

it does for CRT at least .... CRT works on the principle of high energy rays hitting the screen (from behind with an electron gun, horizoltal and verticle scanning)... so if the screen is idle for longer duration, the high energy electrons keep hitting the same place over and over again.. and the phosphorant material on the inside of the screen (which gives images as electrons hit them), gets "burnt" .. so to avoid the "burnouts" screen is to be kept moving.. hence screen savers came into existance..

No, screensavers are things of the past. Nowadays, people use them to make their screen look nice when its doing nothing.
If you want to "save" your screen to make it use less power just turn it off.

yeah it keeps the screen moving instead of it standing still and leaving prints on it. power saver puts on standby anyway
