Why does everyone over inflate Dan Haren's value?
Last year was his "best season" he started off 13-3 only to finish 15-9 on the season. He has done this every season of his career, he starts off great and then fades at the end, dynamic pitchers do not do this. He is more like Brad Penny than he is like Brandon Webb or Jake Peavey. I am just wondering if anyone can justify why he truely deserves all the love that he is getting for being the great pitcher that he has never been?
The Penny reference is to someone that falls off at the end of the season. Penny always starts off like a ball of fire and fades at the end.

Well, in my opinion, he is overrated, but, he played in the AL. He played in the AL, on a horrible team (the A's) and still managed to get 15 wins. Granted, he's no Johan Santana, but he's solid. He's a guy who can give you 30 starts and 200+ innings of solid pitching. I don't think he is Ace material, but he's one of the better #2's in the league. Him and Brandon Webb are a lethal 1-2 punch.

He's one of those pitchers thatt sems to be good when less people are paying attention to him, like before the All-Star game or break and right after. This year, he's around Brandon Webb (and Randy Johnson, another pitcher like Peavey, Penny, and Webb), so that should help make him a better season-long pitcher. Another part of it could just be he could have been unlucky in most of those games, or the A's started to suck with run support and other teams started to score on him more.

he's a durable, ground ball pitcher. never underestimate that. He is not a number 1 but definately a number 2. With him converting back to the national league, where ground ball pitcher's thrive, he'll win 18 games. Never underestimate how hard it is to find a pitcher who can give you 30 starts and 200+ innings a year and do it with a good ERA. He is not like Jake Peavy, the only guy in the NL that compares with Oswalt (a Power righthander). Using his splitter in that big ball park in Arizona, you'll see Dan Haren become more like Brandon Webb in the National League. Trust me in the AL Brandon Webb would be receiving the same scrutiny your giving Dan Haren for formerly being in the AL

He had a tremdous year last year and that is all it takes in today's MLB to sign a huge contract.
Even with his huge dropoff, he still had a 3.07 ERA, and he struck out 192. I think that the fact that the A's offense had a lot to do with him losing games. Plus, pitcher's always have a higher ERA in the AL than the NL.
Brad Penny is a great pitcher when he is healthy, so I would take that. You are saying that he is not Webb or Peavy or Santana, but who is. He is still top 10.

Haren was spectacular last year on the A's. He started out hot and he never slowed down. The only reason why he lost some of those games is because of the A's offense not because he didn't pitch well enough to win. Also, he started off slowly in his first year as a starter. Then got hot at the end of that year. So you're definitely misinformed about Haren.

i really never noticed but know that you brought it p the stats shows that he has done over his career and i think people are saying he will be better because he got wins with the A's not a good team and no run support and the national league its the JV league and he has a better chance of winning more of his games

Im not an Haren fan either I was thrilled he was traded But the A's must provide run support for all of their starters or theyll never make the playoffs regardless of how well their pitchers pitch
