What do you think of these not-so-kind words that Federer had to say about Murray after losing to him today?

http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news?slug=reu-mendubai...

Sounds like the supposed gentleman Federer had himself a bowl of sour grapes after his match. Or maybe he learned some post-match interview skills from Serena Williams.

WOW! that's not the Federer we use to know! He usually gives his opponent credit for playing better. Now, Federer is claiming that he basically gave Murray the match. Thats BS, Murray EARNED IT! a true champion does not respond that way. How about if the rest of the ATP players said that 'yeah, we wanted Federer to be number 1 so we as a group let him win those grand slams, we could win it but we thought it would be nice if Federer win it even though he doesn't deserve it". DUDE! Federer; the sour loser; do you even know how all the other players you beat always praise your skills/ability as a tennis player after your match? they are always positive! Now, this is how you respond.

AND to critize someones skills that just woop your **s, wow thats some nerve. How about taking the fact that Murray just beat you, Federer! Sorry, I was a Federrer fan but maybe i should follow someone else now.

I dont fault either one. Murray knew by staying back he could counterpunch Roger just like Nadal, Nalbandian and Canas. If you know this works go for it. Murray can handle Roger's forehand. Murray may play the same way in his next match since that will work against the flaky Verdasco. I also think Roger is feeling the pressure of the up and comers, but this is likely a mental shot at Murray. Sampras did this all the time and I think Roger may have picked that up since his hitting time with him

Well I can't believe it. Roger lost to Andy Murray. Yes Andy is playing similar to the way he did a couple of years ago and no Andy is not that good but did serve well but Roger WTF. You lost. Don't say anything because it will make you look worse. I know you want to help the kid and give him advice but after a loss like that you can't say a word but....."he played better than I did today. It was his day. I wish him well with his next match."

You should pull your head out from your *** and get serious about tennis again before you loose your World #1 and continue to get beat by players that don't deserve to carry your equipment bag. Listen to the Terminator. He just wants what's best for his Swiss buddy. Oh and congrats on the soon to be here baby. Hope it's healthy and a boy. Lil' Roger that would be sweet eh buddy. Now don't worry about anything and go play tennis.

I think Federer really didn't make any harsh comments here. I personally would take them as constructive criticism to say the least and he does make a point sometimes. However, having said that, I think it's unfair to Andy Murray's part for him to say that Andy wasn't really playing well and he only gave him too much mistakes in order to win the match. I think it's just hard for the World number one to accept defeat specially with someone who shows great potential and possibly someone who will be a contender the following years to come. But nevertheless, that doesn't change my views on Federer since he IS still number one. You can't take that away from him.

He is just a bit frustated, thats it!!though he was harsh with words, there was some truth in what he said!

But Federer should now start practicing for the upcoming tourneys than criticizing others!!

  • I begin to think a door to a parallel universe is opened, and somehow an evil Roger got to this universe. This kind of comment is quite un Roger like. He stops winning is one thing, but he starts saying stupid comments is another. I really don't know what's wrong with Roger, but I hope he turns things around soon :)

Luis Maldive is exactly correct. Roger also said some very nice things about Murray, so I why don't you mention those. He admitted that he made mistakes.

It seems a bit oversensitive, guys. You really hate Roger a lot. Sheesh.

I think it is simply analysing parts of the game. If you read the french press, you see the previous question. They asked Roger what he thinks about Murray's game. So, he said what he thinks of that game.

Roger was playing poorly. He made the mistakes that were stupid. Everyone does this sometimes. Look at the statistics of unforced error. Roger made many errors.

I think Roger must step away from his mix up in these outside games and exibitions. It is making him not concentrate on the real tournies.

i wish federer and all other players would give 100% credit to whoever won the match. i mean he just sounds so cocky and i think this is the number one reason why i am not really rooting for him. i wish all players stop using the terms like oh! i could have played better , and so everybody else could have played better. i like maria sharapova, nadia petrova, rafael nadal. frankly, i do not want to hear any excuses or talking bad about the opponents' games, period. it just sounds so disrespectful as if other players' games are nothing. i just think it is distasteful. if a player wants to use any kind of excuse when lose, then they should have said like they are not up to their game or they are not feeling well or something like that, but only at the beginning of a match. if not, then just admit that your opponent outplayed you. done.

Thank you for the article, OP

I'm not surprised. I'm not criticizing Federer or judging him for what he said, but I have heard his 'less than friendly'/ overconfident talk toward Djokovic before, right before he got beat by Novak in Montreal last year.

I guess he doesn't feel anyone, even though they beat him, can touch him.... ?

This is HIS reality, I'll let him have it.

Source(s): I guess I offended someone (rolls eyes), with the 'thumbs down' and all. I always feel good coming to and answering questions in the tennis section. I wish my fellow tennis fans/answerers would give it a rest on the thumbs down.
