Speaking from personal experience,,,,when having my first child. People gave me so many things, most of which I didn't need b/c everyone gave me the same type of gifts. Don't buy bibs, clothes, wash rags, blankets. They'll get an unlimited supply of those items from other people. Buy items that they will continually need, such as, wipes, diaper cream, diapers (buy 2 different brands, so mom can experiment and see what works best), baby safe household cleaners, formula. Those items get costly b/c they'll have to purchase them all the time. Some other favorite gifts I received were,,,,,a seat cover for shopping carts/restaurant high chairs and a JC Penney Portrait Studio gift cards.

When my youngest was born, his grandparents got a book published all about his birth. It was through the VA--(military)--so I don't know if it is still around. You can do a google search of websites that will make a book all about your babys birth. It had his birth stats, parents names, siblings names, and the names of the first visitors. It was really cute. My son is 6 now and loves to have me read it to him.

i have the perfect gift but you will have to wait til after he is born. You can personalize a baby blanket with his name and birht date on it. it takes about 2 to 4 weeks to arrive. Dend a letter to Randesign p.o.box 22441 beachwood, oh 44122

Name 16 characteristics date of birth pink or blue blanket 17.00 dollars each you can look online to see if you can do it that way otherwise you have to mail it in.

Some things I made for my neice when she was born were hand painted blocks with animals on them, washcloth puppets for the bath and a blanket. I found free instructions for all of these online so you might search around to get some ideas.

If you have time and dedication, knit her a baby blanket. If you don't know how to knit, they sell kits to learn the methods.

If you are just looking for something quick and simple, you might just do what the rest of your party goers will do. Hit the store where she registers and buy her what she called for on the list.

Since she has a really cute name picked out, how about a personalized sign for the nursery that accents the décor? They have nice ones at http://www.mysweetandsour.com/ Personalized gifts are always unique and often treasured, and babies can't outgrow them.

I buy all my baby gifts from http://www.exclusivelychicllc.com/

They will put together anything based on your needs and price range. The presentation is so cute and different. They put together all cute and personalized items in a big bag. Kind of like swag bags. Check it out. I love them!

Get her one of the big things on her registry. If you are going to spend say, $100, I'm she would much rather have a swing than a sentimental blanket embroidered with Clay's name on it. In day to day life, I never use any of the 'special' gifts I got at the baby shower... I find them all useless. You don't want to get stuff dirty that is all fancy, and well, babies soak through their clothes, spit up on their blankets, and break their toys. Day to day useful stuff is the best.

DIAPER CAKE! I made one for my cousin's wedding and everyone loved it. You can take inexpensive items on your friends registry to add to the diaper cake. They are actually really easy to make. Check out some websites for great ideas.

A carseat, one of those things that the baby sits in while he takes a bath, or a baby stroller (preferably a good one)
