Is there some sort of reward for being the first to answer a question?

Have you noticed that the first answer to a question often has no merit whatsoever? I'm talking about answers like "idk", "ewwww", "f$#! off", or "LOL."

Informative, in-depth answers such as those (yes, the sarcasm IS dripping from my computer screen as I'm typing), clearly don't help anyone and they certainly won't be considered for a best answer.

They'll get two points for answering, if they're not reported for "point gaming", but those two points can't compare to a possible ten points for an actual answer. That makes me wonder what possible motive could be behind such behavior.

Is there some sort of reward that encourages nonsensical first answers?

A few people write silly answers as soon as they see a new question pop up, just to gain 2 points. Sometimes a group of people do this regularly so that they could vote each other's answers as the best, if a question goes for voting.

There are also people who totally replace their early posted (non-specific) answers with better answers, by drawing substantially upon or by rewriting the text of subsequent answers, so as to get their answers selected as the best. Such 'place holders' thus take advantage of the defect in the current 'Edit' facility available to answerers. This is a sickening practice.

All that such people want, are a few points - they probably think that earning points is the end purpose of being on YA.

that is constantly been that the guy who requested the question can ensure which answer is outstanding. those days because so few were doing that, issues were replaced to allow the guy asking to %. outstanding and close out after a couple of minutes period. certainly some ask in basic terms to get someone to consider their attitude, as an social gathering... I were given a fee ticket for going 100 in a 70, in spite of the indisputable fact that it replaced into overdue and no individual replaced into on the line, so i did not placed every person in chance and could no longer have gained the fee ticket, correct? sure, the police officials are bored and performance a quota to fulfill, it truly is why to procure stopped. outstanding answer. I agree. no longer a lot should be done about it, and there are a mode of three 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous questions that are stuck in a tie to seem at and sparkling up.

If it goes to voting, people often vote for the first answer, no matter what it says.

I once got 185 votes for saying "No I don't" - I'm guessing I was the first answerer on that question, because I can't believe 185 people thought that was the best.

I doubt whether there is any reward....

I've been first to answer some of the questions but never really felt any benefit..

Of course in my case, I did give sensible replies

I don't think so, but when you see a new question Yahoo always says "be the first to answer the question", so that must "egg people on" to be first!

    I agree, it's pretty silly.

nope. no reward. people just want to mess things up for others. they want to make a difference and are probably depressed. =)

There's no reward, just attention that you're the first!
