Is Spot Searching in Schools Legal if so to what extent?

there are a lot of rights citizens in the US have, but somehow, almost none of them apply to children ( of any age) from the first grade through high school.

as far as i know, the courts have always ruled that the school administrators and or police can search anything, anytime, anywhere.

Of course, you can go to a lawyer, and sue after the fact and MAYBE get some of that changed. but for now, they can search.

I believe it is perfectly legal, although they couldnt on a whim start searching lockers etc, I believe they would have to have police authority for that.

Although its strange, I would have thought they would be more interested in finding knives than mobiles,

If it is laid out in the school handbook that those items are not permit, when you are on school grounds, the administration has every right to search students.

They're not allowed to touch you or look thorugh your purse, if they want to look through your purse, the need a warrant.

they are trying to keep the kids safe

i still think though they shouldn't take cell phones away.
