is Russia dangerous?

my dad went there on business but his company always gave him private cars with a driver and stayed in mansions etc... my bf parents know a lot of Russians but again only the very rich, that work in the government and lets just say they can do ANYTHING in that country and not get into trouble. this would be so easy to stay with them and get more than first class treatment all over town like my bf parents did when they visited. but we are not like this we want to visit the real Russia not just the rich Russia, but our parents wont let us go as they say its poor and very dangerous? i know is poor and can be dangerous but is it that dangerous that we shouldnt go? has anyone been and found it good? got into trouble etc? we are 20 and 22 (we can go of course without parents permision but if they say we shouldnt im sure theres a reason, they just want us to stay with people they know there and i want to go alone with my bf) advice?

What is at risk in Russia ?

Nothing special - the same risk as as anywhere else -

1° - dress the same colour as walls - and forget your jackets, and all equipments with brands - such as Adidas, Nike, Klein etc - they trigger envy and show you as evidently strangers .

2 °- restrain speaking at a loud voice - mainly in crowdy places - wherever I go I can know if US ducks are there or not

3° - if you carry cash put it in little sums in several pockets -

4° - otherwise drug exists - hero too - those people need money -

5° - HIV is strong - and any sex relation MUST be protected

6° - St Peterburg has a nasty reputation for pick-pockets around Gostiny Dvor ( deprtment stores ) on Nievski Prospekt, and Tzigans working a little bit further direction Petropavlovsk very often around Literatournaia Kafé - seems that they have been strongly wiped out recently

7° - Moscow has a high rate of security

8° - At any price never rent a car and restrain driving - roads in Russia are extremely dangerous : - drivers' attitude - miserable roads - very problematic cars ( most of them here would be destroyed immediately ) - travel by train or Aeroflot ( still another kind of experience )

i've got not been to Russia, yet to Ukraine and to India, 2 places that, like Russia, are in all probability a sprint "off the overwhelmed course" for North American visitors. i might say that from what i've got heard, Russia is resembling those places interior the experience which you will possibly desire to be a sprint greater responsive to your self and your ecosystem than you will possibly in case you have been going to assert, England or France. whether being responsive to those issues is under no circumstances undesirable on an identical time as vacationing besides. As somebody else reported, people can attempt to tear you off, that may ensue once you're a vacationer everywhere, yet in Moscow some anybody is particularly sturdy at it. So basically shop an eye fixed on your very own residence and be greater careful of strangers than you would be lower back homestead. people in Russia carry themselves in any different case, they tend to no longer flow around smiling at anybody they don't comprehend, and a few locate it idiotic, even offensive, whilst others do so. they tend to be quieter and attempt to entice much less interest to themselves whilst talking with somebody in a public place, like a eating place. i think of that the labeling of Russia as "risky" in all probability stems from previous conflicts (and a few new) with u . s . of america. even with you're Canadian, many people world extensive whilst listening to you communicate will anticipate you're American. i comprehend various Canadians and their accents sound very on the breaking point of those of Mid-Western people, so as that should reason some anti-American sentiment to return your way. yet rather, i think of that's purely a precaution your college has taken to stay away from/cut back any liability for something that should ensue once you're away. If I have been you, i might flow, i think of it appears like an incredible risk.

    Hi!

Well our people (I am Russian) love foreigners. They see them rarely. It's like something curiosity to see ''real Americans''. Of course it's not about Moscow people. It's about ordinary Russians from other cities.

Sometimes contacts may be dangerous. Our people are poor. And some of them don't miss the opportunity to swindle foreigner. Poverty is not only one reason. The second is envy: ''we are up to our neck in a mud but you are successful''. It's a Russian national streak. ))) Well don't be afraid. The most part of Russians is very hospitable.

If you want to know more - ask me. ))) May be we'll be seeing each other during your trip...

russia is not too bad, but they say it is better be safe then sorry. also, you are very young and unexpirienced, so you should listen to what your mom and dad tell you. on top of that if you want to see real russia, meaning that you want to see and talk to ordinary people then you ve got first to learn the language, as simple and ordinary people usually do not speak foreign languages. the bottom line is that i am suggesting you listen to your parents and stay with whomever they suggest you to stay.

If you can stick with Russian locals who you trust and know, you'll be just fine. Otherwise, if you are both Americans just be a bit careful when venturing out into areas that tourists don't frequently visit.

1% of the US population is in jail, way ahead of other countries, so I would be more worried about the dangers of visiting the USA.
