Was my husband fired from his job unfairly?

My husband had been working for a company for almost 2yrs.They did 3 background checks before he was hired, and they all came back fine. The company did know about a burglary charge on him almost 20yrs. ago, when he was 16,but they hired him anyways. They then decided to fire him after 2yrs., because they said someone was complaining about him working for him. Should we get an attorney?

Update:

The union fought for him, and decided not to go any further, because there was only a 50/50 chance of winning. The union rep. told him if he does get an attorney he will testify on his behalf. That was the only reason for him being fired, he never even called in sick once there. I guess some people just never forget ones past!

Depending on company policy, they sometimes state they have the right to terminate employment at any time. I believe after working for so long they shouldn't have let him go. Was that record their reason for letting him go?

usually employers will locate empty excuses to fireplace workers. that's tremendously person-friendly. The unemployment place of work is familiar with approximately those issues too. I recommend documenting each and every reason you sense that your husband grow to be fired for. it is your word against theirs so make certain you have a proof or rebuttal for each excuse they provide. as an occasion: My son grow to be fired from a job some years in the past. They reported he did no longer provide an ideal accounting of his inventory as required. the only project grow to be that they did no longer provide him a itemizing of inventory that he grow to be meant to settle for to evaluate what he had against what they reported he might desire to have. They gave it out 3 days to each and all of the staff "after" they fired him. So the Unemployment officer knew the corporation grow to be incorrect and my son grow which will collect. So as quickly as I say rfile I recommend seem at it heavily and for each reason they gave that they fired your husband, come across a sturdy clarification why that's no longer genuine. better of luck and that i'm hoping your husband can locate yet another interest or get his unemployment money.

Depends on which state your in. That said most states have at will employment laws meaning the employer or the employee can end the relationship at any time without any reason at all.

Unless your husband was protected by a union contract he most likely is out of luck, but check with your state labor department just in case.

Unless your in Montana (and even then probably) your in an "at will" state meaning you can be fired for any or no reason. The only exceptions would be if firing violated law. No such law was violated here sorry.
