Why are houses square and not round?

    I once lived in a Romanesque brick building and it had many rounded corners and an interesting design. It was in bad shape but it was a historical building. I guess that the bricks made it easier to make the rounded parts. Most building materials are standardized which alos contributes to the boring quality they have.
