Is it possible to become a top contributor if you don't stay within a few categories?
I have a decent percentage of best answers (21%) and I'm not a top contributor, but I've seen several people with that badge who had a much lower percentage of best answers. I'm only at level two, but so are many top contributors. Is it because I jump around too much? I'm interested in many different topics and the questions I answer reflect that. I'm all over the map. ;-)
I don't particularly care whether or not I ever get a top contributor badge, but I am curious about how it works.
Deep, I agree with you. I've seen many people who were knowlegeable and helpful in a wide variety of topics. Their best answer percentages were unbelievable. I think they deserve something for it. Maybe a "General Top Contributor" or something.

The exact details haven't been made available, but it's rumored that you have to get 10% Best Answers in one category, and something like 45 answers in 30 days. Most of us don't care whether or not we ever get a Top Contributor badge, nor do we try to get it... they usually just come along. I logged on one day and there it was.

I once suggested that there be a category like top contributor for the "nice to know" topics, I mean I answer only when I have the time and when I like and knowledgeable on any topic but seeing your percentage then you have even the right to be a top contributor for as you say a topic that covers all question on the side of the earth.
maybe you can suggest what you and me have been driving at Top contributor for "Any topic under the sun."

yeah i had one for awhile when i stayed in the same category, but when i started answering in all categories they took it away from me and i haven't gotten it back, even though my percentage of best answers went up almost immediately. i guess it's some kind of tag to show that you 'know what you're talking about' in a particular area of expertise. i got mine in singles and dating....hahahahha....so if i was a top contributor and if i know what i'm talking about, why am i not getting any more dates than i do? LOL.......i'm happier answering questions about a variety of subjects that i know alot about, so it doesn't really matter......the singles and dating category just got too full of idiots and little kids wanting to know if they 'were pretty or not'....so i had to leave that one alone....besides, i have alot ore fun dealing with a variety of idiots as opposed to the ones that have self-esteem issues lol......
