The word 'god' or 'God', where does it come from? This is a linguistic question!?

What language is the word god from? What is its exact English translation?

The English language contains many linguistic influences and even words from other languages. It is not Old English. Contemporary english is a composite language.

    <German -- gott

    <Gothic -- guth

<Indo-European base -- ghau - to call out, invoke

    <Sanskrit -- havate - (he) calls upon

It is a very old word, throughout many languages. A full Oxford edition (dictionary) might give you a more detailed study; I don't have one close at hand.

No one knows the actual word of God because if you knew then you could have power over the creator of the universe and people are incapable of behaving themselves.
