Does severe lower back pain stress the heart?
My 77 year old mother is a heart patient, having survived a bypass operation about 4 years ago. She's injured her lower back, is in severe pain that ibuprophen doesn't seem to help, and the doc wants to wait a week to see her. I'm thinking of taking her to the ER. This has to be stressing her already weak heart.

Hi Denise
Although the pain is severe, it will not put overdue strain on your mothers heart. If the doctor was concerned for her heart I'm sure they would be monitoring her more regularly.
If the ibuprofen is not helping then she porbably has a few joints and muscles not working well rahter than inflammation. There are a few things she can do at home to help ease the back pain now and reduce some of the stress.
See the link below for some techniques you can try now to ease her back pain, and follow the link to where you can find the techniques you need to solve your problem. Also...

I was having a similiar event. Ruled out additional heart problems but the pain remained. Doc did an endoscope (?Spelling) found a number of problems with esphogus and stomach. They had me stop taking aspirn and doubled my reflux med for 2 weeks. Much better now. Hope this helps
